Used Dulcimers

We moved to Portland 3 years ago and were very surprised at the vibrant hammered dulcimer community in this area. We also noticed how often hammered dulcimers showed up for sale. So, we started buying them so that folks in the area who wanted to get started on these wonderful instruments would be able to play instruments from different makers and hopefully make an informed decision about what would best fit their desires.

As time has gone by we have ended up with quite a few dulcimers in excellent condition. Being the west coast we find a lot of Dusty Strings, so our instruments are heavier on Dusties than other makers.

If you are looking for anything from a beginners instrument to a fairly advanced dulcimer give us a call (360-210-7295) and let’s chat. And, if you are really not sure how big of an instrument you need – let’s chat. I have had a chance to play, side by side, a bunch of instruments and can discuss the pro’s and cons of various makers.

My goal is to buy instruments at a price that will allow me to sell them for 75% or less of current prices. In the case of the 12/11 Dusties we are more like 50%. This is an interesting reality, given that a 10 year old instrument sounds better than a new one. OK, not every time, but 95% of the time at least.

Are we a dealer? No, I don’t really consider us acting as dealers – our focus is not to make money on this effort – our goal is to place instruments where they will be loved and played. If you are trying to find just the right instrument you are welcome to visit us in Camas, WA and play instruments to see which best matches your desires.

Right now we have the following instruments looking for a new home:

2 Dusty Apprentices, 2 Dusty Preludes, 4 Dusty D10’s, 1 Dusty D35, 2 Dusty D300’s, 3 Dusty D500’s, 2 Meadowlarks (a fantastic beginners instrument), a Rick Thum 17/17, James Jones compact 3/17/17, T.K. O’Brien 12/11 – this instrument would amaze you with how beautiful it sounds
